Day 4-Do you hear what I hear?

Here is the next installment of my 31 Days of Free Writing Prompts Challenge It is also my five minute friday post. See more fmf posts here five minute friday link up!

I am so looking forward to changing the clocks an hour back in November. I know, I know the sun will set sooner and the darkness will blanket the skies at dinner time BUT biologically speaking it is my time of the year. It’s my natural rhythm.

I love waking up extra early on a cool, crisp, fall morning and sitting outside listening to the world wake up. That sweet time after the night critters quiet down and before the day critters wake up. All I can hear is the wind rustling the leaves. Then a bird will chirp in, and then another and another. Then a cricket or two will chime in. Then the chickens. It is such a beautiful time of day. A little bit later I will sometimes hear a cow moo or dog barking in the distance. If I am really quiet I sometimes hear the crunch of leaves as a family of deer sneak through our property.

I love listening to the world wake up.

I have been known to join in with some worship songs too. Walking in the backyard, in my pj’s, with arms raised high in praise and worship. All that is around me sounds like an orchestra. All different sounds blending into a perfect harmony.

All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.” Psalm 66:4
I’d like to believe “All the earth worships” means the trees, with their rustling leaves, the birds, insects, and other animals along with you and me.
These living things, created by God, worship their creator with no thought to where their next meal will come from or even where they will lay their head. We are so spoiled by our creator-a warm home, furnishings, food, clothing-our every need is taken care of so we should worship our creator, even more so, than these other creatures He has created.

Do you hear what I hear? I hope so and I hope maybe, just maybe, one, early morning I will listen and hear your voice joining in with all the earth in worship.

  1. Beautiful post, Nancy.

Made me think of seein the gegenschein, out here in the desert, and thus, for you, a sonnet.

In the predawn hush there’s glory
before the day is brought to mind,
    implicit in the ancient story
    of the lovely gegenschein.
The sun has not yet lit the air
but there’s something in the sky,
a sight that’s stunning, and so rare
as Zodiacal light ascends the sky.
The haunting dust of the ecliptic
catches rays that we can’t see,
and it puts an awesome mystic
    in Creation’s mystery.
In God’s wee hours, raise your eyes
and take in Heaven’s proffered prize.
