Day 10-Fear is a liar.

Here is the next installment of my Five Minute Free Writes Challenge.

I used to be very fearful and scared of lots of things.

  • What if we don’t have enough to meet our needs.
  • What if my husband dies suddenly
  • What if my daughter never talks to me again.
  • What if we get into another wreck
  • What if the plane crashes before we land
  • What if the power goes out
  • What if people look at me differently when they know my past
  • What if, what if, what if…….you get the idea.

Thing is, what if’s are a figment of my over active imagination and I have absolutely nothing to be scared of. What if’s are all based on fear and the Bible has much to say about fear.

When I start to feel scared and fear starts to well up Scripture brings my focus back to the truth and away from the fear induced lies in my heart and mind.

Here are some Bible Scriptures (ESV) I use to battle fear:

Psalm 46:2
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea.
Psalm 118:6
The  Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?
Deuteronomy 3:22
You shall not fear them; for it is the Lord your God who fights for you.
Isaiah 41:10
fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:13
For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
Isaiah 43:5
Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you;
Matthew 10:31
Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:32
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

When you are scared and fear begins to well up how do you switch your thoughts from lies to the truth?
